Jaylen Moment
Jaylen Moment (she/her) proudly hails from the BIG 910 — also known as Fayetteville, North Carolina — where she attended J. Cole’s rival high school and subsequently discovered her love for public health. She brought this love to Yale by majoring in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health and receiving a Global Health Certificate. She will also work toward her Master of Public Health degree through the BA-BS/MPH 5-year Program for Yale College Students. As someone who became a Certified Nurse Aide in high school, she has always been passionate about improving outcomes for individuals, fueled by her family's discussions about the racial disparities they have endured. As a member of the LEITH Lab, she is interested in learning how the historical afterlives of slavery have established the precedent for modern-day public health disparities, such as within underrepresented populations in ALS communities. She has experience with research, statistical data analysis, and geospatial mapping. At Yale, she will deepen her knowledge by working in labs focused on mitigating health disparities through community-based and historical approaches, such as the LEITH Lab, and she has experience with the Community Healthcare Van, which delivers essential healthcare services to local neighborhoods.
In her free time, she loves stepping with Yale Steppin’ Out, having lighthearted discussions at Yale's Afro-American Cultural Center, and serving with the Prestigious Pi Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
